Neurotransmitter Information Sheet

Hello Health students!

Here is the information sheet for the short list of neurotransmitters we will be studying. While you will not be held accountable for everything on this sheet (because there is a lot of it), you want to become familiar with the information -- especially the ones emphasized in class. Good luck!

Neurons and Neurotransmitters

Hello Health students!

Below are a short couple of Discovery Channel videos covering how our brain system of neurons work. Give them a look to refresh yourself on the topics we have discussed in class over the last week, and to prepare for the neurotransmitter material ahead. Enjoy!

Project Update

Hello Health students!

A quick update on the fact sheet for the current project:

- The information will be made available on Monday, April 20.

- The proposal will be due Wednesday, April 22.

- The exam has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 24.

I have received a few emails from concerned students regarding the Freshman class camp-out and the timing of this portion of the project. This update sees to those issues, so do not worry, and please enjoy the trip!

Good luck!

Calendar and Announcements Updated

Hello Health students!

Take a look at the Announcements and Calendar section of the column to the right and you will notice some very important changes.

Also, be sure to check back to the blog regularly to download and print assignments this week, including the incoming Neurotransmitter worksheet.

Have a great day!

Nutritional Fact Sheet Project, Part II

Hello Health students!

As we covered in class, the Nutritional Fact Sheet Project, Part II involves a proposal on how to improve our cafeteria's food offerings. The information that is relevant to this portion of the project, however, is causing me a little bit of concern. There are a few inconsistent calorie values that I will be looking into so that we have accurate data to work with. This will take a bit of time, unfortunately.

As a result, the proposal will not be due until the middle of next week. This does not mean you should be setting it aside this week, however. This is a very important piece of work that the administration will be seeing in some form in the near future. So please consider it's importance as you design your arguments and the form of your approach to this assignment.

I will post more information as it becomes available.

The Neuron

Hello Health students!

Below is an artist's rendition of a neuron, the cell of the nervous system. When drawing it for the assignment that is due the next time we meet, be sure to pay attention to the labels of each structure (click the image to enlarge). We will cover their functions in class tomorrow.

Have fun!

Schedule Change

Hello Health students!

Please remember that tomorrow, Monday April 6, there will be no 1st period Health class. Those of you enrolled in that section may take the extra 50 minutes or so to recharge for the long week ahead.

Also, a quick reminder: the Cafe Nutritional Fact Sheet Project comes to a close this Wednesday, April 8! You should already have your data collected and ready to put together with your group members today and tomorrow, and should also be working outside of class to do so.

If you have any questions, please let me know!
