Poster Project Due Date

Hello Health students!

The due date for the Poster Project has been set. All posters will be due Wednesday, March 11. No late work will be accepted, so please plan accordingly!

And remember, your posters have a maximum worth of 200 points in the Project category, after participation percentages have been considered. This is quite a considerable chunk, so be sure you get things done in a timely manner!

And, as always, if you need any help, let me know!

Exam Review

Hello Health students!

As you all know from our in-class discussions, we have our 2nd exam of the semester at the end of this week. The topics will include those presented in the "Intro to Nutrition" and "Nutrition" slides, which are found on this blog, as well as the food group material we just covered in the pamphlet I handed out in-class.

The exam will consist of multiple choice questions and the all-important short-answers that emphasize an understanding of the material.

To review, I highly suggest looking through both slideshows, and reviewing the material I emphasized in the Health pamphlet we covered this week.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Health Project 2 - The Poster Project

Hello Health students!

Your second major Health project is upon us! The Poster Project begins today, and over time will see you produce a poster displaying your health message for all the campus to see!

You have chosen your group members and discussed a potential topic and specific health-based message you will work with. Hopefully, you have also outlined your topic and approach, and submitted it for approval.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

- You can choose from any health-related topic, whether we have covered it in-class or not. Just be certain that your topic has relevance to a modern-day health issue.

- This is a chance to be creative, so take advantage of it!

- The posters will be 24" x 36" in size.

- A blank, white poster sheet will be made available to you, but you will need to provide what other materials you may need.

- You can use print-outs, cut-outs, pictures, drawings, etc, to make your poster unique and exciting!

- We will have very limited time in class to work on the projects, called "Poster Days."

- The tentative due dates will be 1 month from today.

If you have any questions, please let me know! And remember, there is a lot of potential to be had with this project, so have fun with it!

Calorie Counting Logs and Deductions

Hello Health students!

We will be applying a new rule to the Calorie Counting Project, which will deduct points from students who leave their composition books or journals in class on a day in which they should have it with them.

The deduction will be 3 points per day.

Please keep this in mind when completing your project, as these deducted points can add up quickly if care is not taken.

This new rule will go into effect beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The Basics of Nutrition

Hello Health students!

I hope that you enjoyed your weekend and are well rested for the school week ahead!

Beginning on Monday, we will be taking a look at the components of a nutritious diet, including the basic food groups, the basic types of nutrients, and how they serve to benefit our bodies and overall health.

Notes will be made available to you in-class this week, as well as the worksheet reports we will be doing as well.

And don't forget to bring your Calorie Counting journals daily!

See you soon!

Nutrition - Your Definitions

Hello Health students!

As we look to move from our own subjective definitions of what it means to be "nutritious" and "healthy," etc, it would prove quite useful to know exactly what those subjective definitions are.

So, in class today, we will be splitting into groups and completing a worksheet covering our own definitions of nutrition-based vocabulary. Once completed, we will take a closer look at the main topics, and what their objectives definitions really are.

See you soon!
