Super Size Me Worksheet

Hello Health students!

We have started the award-winning documentary "Super Size Me," which takes a close and personal look at the obesity epidemic from the perspective of a man who eats nothing but McDonald's menu items 3 times a day for one whole month.

Linked below is the worksheet to complete, which we will talk about in much detail in class when we finish the film. Yes, there are 70 questions, but we'll make sure you know the answer to each and every one, so long as you are ready to hear the material! Also, the film material is fair game for the exam that will be announced soon, so keep that in mind as you watch!

CalorieLab

Hello Health students!

As we begin the Calorie Counting Project tomorrow, CalorieLab is a wonderful website that can prove helpful to many of you looking for more calorie-counting resources. It provides nutritional information for popular foods and restaurants and covers quite a bit of data, so you should be able to cover what you're looking for.

REMEMBER, this project is not meant to be difficult and does not require a large investment of your time. Use the resources on this blog to help you along your way and to keep things as simple as possible!

Also, remember that you are only accounting for the calories you are consuming. You SHOULD NOT be eating less or eating more based upon the numbers you are observing. You are only counting calories, and nothing more. Good luck!

"Super Size Me"

Hello Health students!

Instead of printing out notes today, as you will be doing most every Sunday from this point on for the following week's lectures, you are only required to come to class tomorrow ready to watch the documentary "Super Size Me." Some of you have already started the film in your respective periods, and we will continue the film where we left off.

See you all tomorrow!

Calorie Counting Advice

Hello Health students!

A quick piece of advice to help you along with your Calorie Counting Project.

Instead of logging in what foods you eat and the calories they possess at the same time, it might be helpful to log what foods you eat first, and then look up how many calories they possess later on.

And remember, the project starts on Monday, Jan. 26, so be ready!

The Process of Digestion

Hello Health students!

As we begin our studies in Kinesiology this week and next, it is important to learn a bit about the process by which we take nutrients into our body to begin with -- digestion.

Below is a very simple and great video showcasing the movement of food and nutrients through the digestive tract. Take a look, and be prepared to discuss it soon! Enjoy!

Welcome back!

Hello Health students!

Welcome back from what I hope was a very fulfilling Christmas break.

As discussed in class, you are returning to a slightly different lecture and project schedule for our class. Given the very short amount of time we have left in the semester, a few items needed some tweaking, and they are listed below.

- Project MAD: Instead of requiring the production of an item, Project MAD will now only require the initial proposal of an idea that targets one specific issue you think needs attention, and outlines how you would go about raising awareness for that issue.

- Project Nutritional Fact Sheet: The project that was to see us create a fact sheet for the LLA Cafeteria has been canceled this quarter, and will instead be the major project for Health students during second semester.

If you have any questions about these changes, please let me know!
